Carge Bike Roll Call – Third Annual Block Party

On Saturday, July 27th, 2013, from 12 PM to 7 PM, there’s going to be a really awesome event to promote cargo cycling at West Town Bikes (2459 W Division, at Campbell).

Bring your cargo bike if you have one, and lock it up in front of Ciclo Urbano. If you don’t have one, there’s going to be all sorts of bikes to test ride. If you’ve ever considering trading the minivan for a bakfiets, bring your kids.

There will be grilling, a classic car and bike show, West Town bikes students doing BMX tricks, and a ton of fun. Check out more information (including how to donate) after the cut.

I had a meeting today with Eduardo of the Division Street Business Development Association (DSBDA) and other organizers of the first Paseo Boricua Classic Car & Bike Show, which will be “sharing the stage” (so to speak) with the third annual Cargo Bike Roll Call block party.

This is the big #cargobike event of the summer and it’s being combined with the Show because Division Street from Western to California will be closed to all through and cross traffic, making a bigger cargo bike test ride area, and attracting a larger diversity of people to the transformative nature of utility and family cycling.

The Classic Car & Bike Show will feature hundreds of automobiles, motorcycles, and bicycles, on display for gawking and to take part in a competition (registration required). The Cargo Bike Roll Call will be on Division Street in front of Ciclo Urbano (the business bike shop, part of West Town Bikes) and around the corner on Campbell Street.

Bring yourself, your kids, your family and friends. Also bring your bike. If you don’t have a cargo or utility bike, then it’s your turn to try one of a dozen varieties. For the first time, we will be having a barbeque with hot dogs and burgers and grilled vegetables, making this a more typical West Town Bikes event.

I want to raise $750 this year. I raised $500 last year, $150 of which went to West Town Bikes for hosting, a portion to me for my time, and the remainder to printing and food and drink costs. I want to make the same donation to West Town Bikes, pay myself, but additionally make a donation to DSBDA for their high costs of obtaining the street closure permit. Remaining proceeds will be used to develop future Cargo Bike Roll Call events.

Donate to West Town Bikes on Network for Good and specify “cargo bike” in the designation field. Donate $75 to have your name or logo printed on the official event poster and mentioned on this website and at the event.
