Product Review – Sportique

I met the fine people of Sportique Brands at the Providence Festival of Cyclocross.  They were selling a whole line of body products, many of which were cycling or sports-related. Of course, a cyclocross race is a great place to get in a discussion about chamois cream… The saleswoman was horrified that I was been using Bag Balm, and I…

Cx season!

Though the weather may make you think otherwise, break out your knee socks, because cyclocross season is officially underway!  Relay Cross, the season opener, happened a couple of weeks ago, and from what I hear, was a blast.  I wish I could have been there, but I’m in Boston, where people are equally crazy for cyclocross.   What is cyclocross?…

Tiny Fix Moms, part 1

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!   My mom’s first bicycle was a 3-speed Hercules.  It was blue, was a women’s style (suitable for wearing a skirt), with fenders and had a generator hub to power a headlight.  They called these bikes “English Racers” because they had skinny tires and more than one gear.  She rode it around her neighborhood in Washington DC,…

Hi Vis Fashion

Since it wouldn’t be one of my posts without the requisite science lesson, let’s begin with a definition of “retroreflective,” shall we? When light hits a surface, it can do one of a few things.  Matte surfaces scatter light in all directions.  Mirrored surfaces bounce light rays off of them at a the same angle from how they entered, but…
